XACT TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCES NEW OPEN-ARCHITECTURE PLATFORM FOR M2M DEVICE DEVELOPMENT
Company and partners ORBCOMM and T-Mobile USA enable end-to-end solutions to speed development of cost-effective Machine-to-Machine Applications.
Las Vegas, NV, US, – January 5, 2011 – Xact Technology, LLC, a DMC Capital Funding, LLC portfolio company, today announced the launch of its Open-Architecture M2M Platform. Consisting of hardware, software, data network and a user-interface portal, the Platform allows third-party developers to create independent modules which can be easily integrated with the Xact Development Board which will be demonstrated at CES 2011 this week in booth #9828. Developers can also leverage the Platform's cellular connectivity, GPS positioning capabilities and back-end utilities to relay additional location-based data and create innovative machine-to-machine (M2M) applications.
ORBCOMM (NASDAQ: ORBC) and T-Mobile USA have been instrumental in the development of the innovative Xact Platform and the delivery of network services required for M2M applications. ORBCOMM Inc. provides data connectivity through its network of terrestrial wireless system operators. The robust global network of the T-Mobile brand is a critical element of the solution.
The Platform's hardware and software are encapsulated in the eight-layer Xact Development Board that integrates a 50-channel GPS engine, quad-band wireless microprocessor, onboard flash memory, 3D multi-axis accelerometer and multiple input/output ports. Xact customers will have multiple choices for viewing and using data thanks to several tailored user interfaces including consumer-oriented tracking portals and highly integrated portals for fleet management, usage-based insurance, telemedicine, smart grid, and security applications.
"Our goal is to open up the M2M industry to new partners and verticals by positioning our platform as the core of a new development ecosystem. With open source code, a strong network of partners from every aspect of the M2M market, and a passion for innovation, Xact is positioned to be a change-agent in the M2M industry," said Xact Technology's Michael G. Levine. "The M2M market is currently fragmented with many undercapitalized small players, which often leads to long development times, limited functionality and inferior quality. With the financial support of DMC Capital Funding and access to the DMC group of companies' tier-1 manufacturing, supply chain and sales channel resources and expertise, we anticipate enabling a whole slate of new applications which were previously impossible to bring to market due to time, cost and complexity of the design cycle."
"Xact's strength is its ability to leverage the talent of developers outside its own institution, which will create innovation for the industry," said Marc Eisenberg, Chief Executive Officer of ORBCOMM. "That, in turn, will create additional data communications in industries that have yet to fully embrace M2M. ORBCOMM is pleased to partner with Xact to provide its customers with best-in-class communications networks from around the world."
"The M2M market has been growing rapidly and is positioned to explode. We're thrilled that companies continue to leverage our robust network for these types of applications. Further, the new Xact Platform is directly in line with our primary goal to simplify the process of bringing new M2M applications to market for new and existing players," said John Horn, National Director of M2M at T-Mobile.
Xact offers a Development Kit (DevKit) for developers interested in adding sensors, satellite modems or other modules to the platform. The DevKit includes the double-shielded, PTCRB-certified Xact Development Board, APIs, an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), utilities and housing.
Xact also offers a complete prepackaged tracking device, XactTrax, which harnesses the power of the Xact Development Board along with battery in a durable, sealed, water-resistant housing. Mounting brackets and alternative automotive power supplies are also available.
The Xact Development Board, XactTrax device and DevKit are available for immediate sale and will be demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show this week in Las Vegas. For more information about Xact, visit www.xacttechnology.com or see us at CES 2011 in Las Vegas January 6-9, booth #9828.
