Copia Partners With LearningField and Leading Publishers in Australia to Launch First-Of-Its-Kind Subscription-Based Digital Classroom
Publishers including Cambridge University Press, Wiley, Oxford University Press, Pearson and Cengage among First Partners to Leverage Copia's Learning Platform

NEW YORK, NY SEPTEMBER 16, 2013  –  Copia, a leading provider of customized digital classroom solutions, today announced it is powering the interactive learning experience behind LearningField. An industry initiative in Australia led by Copyright Agency, LearningField aims to transform classroom instruction by delivering complete, grade-level content aligned with core educational standards in a seamless digital environment.

Teachers Have the Power to Curate Content Aligned to Curriculum
Through a single per-student subscription fee, LearningField allows teachers and students to access an entire multi-publisher grade-level library aligned to the Australian, New South Wales and Victorian curricula – all housed inside Copia's interactive classroom environment. Using intuitive search and discovery tools, teachers are able to easily curate materials to support the diverse needs of students in years seven through ten. LearningField is currently being piloted in a number of Australian schools and will be available for general use in the 2014 school year. It is supported by five of Australia's largest educational publishers as well as a number of smaller publishers and is being developed as a solution for the entire industry.

"LearningField is like the 'Spotify' for secondary education, allowing teachers to tailor exactly the content they want to the specific needs of their students, as they can select any chapter of any text in the catalogue," said Ben Heuston, director of LearningField. "We have achieved the delicate balance of a model that is flexible and affordable for schools, while ushering in exciting, new revenue models for publishers in the digital age."

"A Copia-powered LearningField can be a model for integrating technology, education and publishing around the world," said Ben Lowinger, executive vice president of Copia. "This initiative creates an environment that provides personalized differentiation to enable meaningful instruction for students at various learning levels. Combined with immediate access to a broad selection of relevant materials from the leading educational publishers, Australian secondary school educators using LearningField will be the first in the world to use this innovative platform. Copia is excited to be part of such a forward-thinking approach."

Copia's Learning Platform Unifies Teacher, Student and Publisher
Within the Copia-powered digital learning environment, teachers can assign texts, track student progress, administer assessments, and interact with students on a group or individual basis. Students are equipped with a set of rich, interactive tools including the ability to seamlessly collaborate with their peers, communicate privately with their teachers and personalize the content.

"Schools have been hoping for a 'one stop shop' across multiple resource providers that works on multiple devices," said Mark O'Neil, executive director of Cambridge University Press. "We currently provide 72 titles to LearningField, a ground-breaking solution that meets the digital needs identified by some of our customers."

Availability and Cost
Schools can subscribe to LearningField at one of two possible price points:

  • $160 for the 'core subject offer,' which gives students access to any English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography resource from all participating publishers
  • $250 for the 'all subject offer,' which gives students access to over 45 subject areas including the 'core subject' materials and elective subjects in areas such as the Arts, Technology and Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

The LearningField partnership with Copyright Agency is an expansion of Copia's existing presence in the Australian market, where Copia provides a wide variety of printed and eBook titles. As a strategic partner of the Australian Publishers Association (APA), Copia is powering the eBook component of TitlePage Plus, a new subscription-based supply chain solution for the book industry. Additionally, Copia is partnering with QBD The Bookshop, the largest company-owned retail book chain in Australia, to power its new eBook business.
